Saturday softball: Soldotna, Homer swept in Valley

The visiting Soldotna softball team lost 14-2 and 17-8 Northern Lights Conference contests to Palmer on Saturday.

The Stars are 4-6 in the league and 6-11-1 overall.

The 14-2 game went four innings. Brook Fischer led the Stars by going 2 for 2.

The 17-8 game went five innings. The Stars were up 7-2 after an inning, but Palmer took control of the game with nine runs in the second.

Miah Mead was 2 for 2 with two RBIs for SoHi, while Fischer was 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs, and Kiara “KiKi” Forkner was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

Homer 14, Wasilla 9

The visiting Mariners notched a nonconference victory in four innings Saturday.

Both teams scored eight runs in the first inning, but Homer also scored four in the second and two in the fourth.

Ariana Davis was solid in relief for Homer. She pitched 3 1-3 innings and gave up an unearned run on three hits while walking three and striking out two.

Davis scored twice for Homer, while Alaiyah Brost had two runs, Emily Owens had two runs, Layla Triem had two runs, and Becca Trowbridge was 2 for 4 with four RBIs.

Colony 8, Homer 3

The visiting Mariners lost a nonconference game in four innings to the Knights in falling to 4-17 overall.

Colony had a 5-0 lead after three, then both teams scored three times in the fourth.

Emily Owens and Katelyn Cowdrey each had a run and a hit for Homer.
