Saturday: Pilots blow past Oilers

The Anchorage Glacier Pilots defeated the Peninsula Oilers 8-2 on Saturday in Alaska Baseball League play at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage.

The Oilers fell to 3-4 on a nine-game, eight-day road trip. Peninsula finishes the trip by taking on the Mat-Su Miners at Hermon Brothers Field in Palmer at 2 p.m. Sunday, and by facing the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks at Lee Jordan Field in Chugiak at 6 p.m. Monday.

The Anchorage Bucs continue to lead the league at 15-6, while the Miners are in second at 11-9, the Oilers are in third at 11-10, the Chinooks are in fourth at 7-11 and the Glacier Pilots are last at 9-17.

The Pilots had a 4-0 lead after three innings. Peninsula was able to cut the lead in half with runs in the seventh and eighth innings, but Anchorage scored four times in the bottom of the eighth to salt away the game.

The Pilots used four pitchers to get through the game. David Heefner started out with three scoreless innings, then Cal Scolari added a scoreless inning.

Mac Zawistoski gave up two runs in four innings, then Tommy Beam pitched a scoreless ninth.

Aaron Morris took the loss for the Oilers, giving up four runs — one earned — on seven hits in 6 2-3 innings.

Cameron Teper got two outs without incident, while Andrew Alva gave up four runs on four hits in an inning.

Max Roffwarg, who is leading the league with a .373 average, led the Oilers by going 2 for 4.

Luke Heefner was 3 for 5 with three RBIs for the Pilots, while Dylan Marx was 2 for 4 with two runs and Brendan Shanahan was 2 for 4 with a run.
