Saturday hockey roundup: Soldotna gets victory over Palmer

The visiting Soldotna hockey team defeated Palmer 4-1 on Saturday in Northern Lights Conference action.

The Stars moved to 10-9-2 overall and 4-3 in the league by handing the Moose their first loss in the conference this season. SoHi is 2-1 against Palmer this season, also owning a nonconference victory over the Moose.

The game was testy, with Palmer getting three five-minute majors and a game disqualification, and SoHi getting one five-minute major.

After a scoreless first period, Soldotna’s top line dominated the second period and put away the game. Noah Crabtree scored on the power play, Daniel Heath scored a pair of even-strength goals, then Marshall DeRaeve scored on the power play with 2 seconds left in the second period for a 4-0 lead.

Bryce Horacek scored in the third period for Palmer.

Brycen Clyde made 21 saves for the Stars, while Palmer goalies combined to make 32 saves.

Jake Seward-Jenski led Colony with three goals and three assists. Tess Jorgensen had a 14-save shutout for the Knights.

For Homer, Ali Gall made six saves on 10 shots and Reace Brothers made 18 saves on 26 shots.
