Saturday baseball: Soldotna ties for 3rd at Buddy Dale Invitational

The Soldotna and Wasilla baseball teams played to a 5-all tie Saturday in the third-place game of the Buddy Dale Invitational in Wasilla.

The Division II Stars are now 2-6-2 and have played only Division I competition so far.

SoHi, the three-time defending Division II state champs, hosts Division II opponent Kenai Central, third at state last season, at 6 p.m. Monday.

Saturday, SoHi scored four runs in the top of the third inning for a 5-3 lead, but the Warriors scored twice in the bottom of the third.

Neither team would score after that through the seventh inning, when the came was called for time.

Trenton Ohnemus went five innings for the Stars, giving up five runs — four earned — on four hits while walking five and striking out six.

Jack Harper slammed the door with two scoreless innings, giving up a hit while walking two.

Brett Hostetler and Brenden Theel led the Stars at the plate.

Hostetler was 2 for 4 with a run and two RBIs, while Theel was 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI.

Matt Schilling and Jett Brophy made the all-tournament team for the Stars.
