Oilers to open playoffs at Miners on Saturday

The Peninsula Oilers will open a best-of-three Top of the World semifinal playoff series with the Mat-Su Miners at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Hermon Brothers Field in Palmer.

All of the games will be in Palmer. Sunday’s game will be at 2 p.m., while Monday’s game, if necessary, will be at 6 p.m.

The Miners, at 24-16, finished second in the league, while the Oilers, at 23-17, finished third in the league.

The other semifinal series pits the No. 1 Anchroage Bucs (27-12) against the No. 4 Anchorage Glacier Pilots (13-27). The Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks missed the playoffs at 12-27.

Mat-Su won the season series against the Oilers by a 6-4 count. The Miners were 5-0 against the Oilers at Hermon Brothers, while the Oilers were 4-1 against the Miners at Coral Seymour Memorial Park in Kenai.
