The Palmer Moose notched a pair of wins over the Nikiski soccer teams Thursday at Palmer.

The Nikiski girls lost 4-2 while the boys lost 3-1.

In the girls game, Nikiski trailed Palmer 2-0 at halftime, but Rachel Thompson pulled the Bulldogs back within one with a corner kick in the second half that bounced off the Palmer goalkeeper. Zykiah Cooney also scored in the second half for Nikiski.

“I thought we played them quite evenly, but sometimes its a matter of being lucky versus unlucky,” said Nikiski coach Troy Zimmerman. “I think we didn’t capitalize on a few opportunities.”

Brianna Vollertsen faced 13 shots on goal for the Bulldogs. On offense, Nikiski managed seven shots on goal.

In the boys contest, Palmer mirrored the girls squad by staking out a 2-0 lead. In the 60th minute, a corner kick by Christian Riddall found its way in the net with help from Larry Cutsforth, which cut the lead to 2-1. However, that would be the only time Nikiski found the back of the net.

Sullivan Jackson faced 26 shots on goal for the Bulldogs.
