Nikiski grad Thompson helps WSU into 2nd round

The host Washington State soccer team, featuring 2015 Nikiski graduate Rachel Thompson in net, defeated Montana 5-1 on Friday to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Thompson played the first 72 minutes of the game before being subbed out for Emma Dahline. Dahline gave up the lone goal of the match. Washington State plays again Thursday.

Thursday, Thompson was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District 8 team, announced by College Sports Information Directors of America.

Thompson has a 3.78 grade-point average in human development, and finished the regular season 7-4-1 in goal for the Cougars this year after stepping into the starter’s job six games into the season.

She is now eligible for Google Cloud national academic all-America awards, which will be announced in early December.
