The Nikiski girls soccer team picked up a 10-1 victory over Voznesenka on Monday at Homer High School in nonconference action.

The Bulldogs improved to 2-3 with the triumph.

Zykiah Cooney had four goals for Nikiski, while Deidra Lamping had three goals, Rylee Jackson had two goals and Molly Cason tacked on the last goal of the game. Verity Feltman paced Nikiski with two assists.

“This was a confidence booster,” Nikiski coach Troy Zimmerman said. “We were able to work on our passing game and work on keeping our shape and shifting together as a team around the field.

“It was a good game to try a few different things out.”

Brianna Vollertsen had a clean sheet in the first half for Nikiski, while Voznesenka was able to score a penalty kick in the second half against Avery Kornstad.

“They’re a young team and they don’t have a lot of experience,” Zimmerman said of Voznesenka. “They’ve definitely made improvements from last season. It’s good to see them building their program.”

Zimmerman also said his back four of Emma Wik, Kornstad, Daisy Schwenke and Melanie Sexton all had solid games.
