Kenai’s Ross Hanson, 18, scored an overtime goal Sunday to send the Colorado Thunderbirds 18U team to the USA Hockey National Tournament.

The Thunderbirds faced the Rocky Mountain Roughriders in the championship game of the Rocky Mountain District Championship in Gilbert, Arizona. The Thunderbirds had opened the tournament with a 4-0 loss to the Roughriders, but the championship went to overtime tied at 1. With just under seven minutes remaining, Hanson, who played his freshman season for Kenai Central, knocked home a rebound for the victory.

The USA Hockey National Tournament is April 6 to 10 in Pittsburgh.
