Kenai, SoHi, Homer girls and boys qualify for state soccer

The Soldotna, Kenai Central and Homer girls and boys soccer teams will play at the Division II state soccer tournament from Thursday through Saturday, May 29 to 31, at Colony, Palmer and Wasilla high schools.

The Kardinals girls and Stars boys are the top seeds and also are the defending champions.

The Kenai girls, also a runner-up in 2023, open against No. 8 Redington at 3 p.m. Thursday at Wasilla. The Kards (11-3 overall) defeated the Huskies 11-0 and 6-1 this season.

The No. 2 Stars girls, champs in 2023 and runners-up in 2021 and 2019, open against No. 7 Ketchikan at 11 a.m. at Wasilla. SoHi (10-4-2) defeated the Kings 2-1 and 3-2 this season.

The No. 6 Homer girls, seeking their first trip to the final, open against No. 3 Palmer at 3 p.m. Thursday at Palmer. The Mariners (3-8-1) lost 3-2 to the Moose this season.

The Soldotna boys, also runners-up in 2023 and 2021, open against No. 8 North Pole at 5 p.m. Thursday at Colony. SoHi (13-4-1) has not played the Patriots this season.

The No. 4 Kenai boys, the champs in 2018 and 2019, open against No. 5 Monroe Catholic at 11 a.m. Thursday at Palmer. The Kards (9-6-2) have not faced the Patriots this season.

The No. 6 Mariners boys, who have never been to a final, open against No. 3 Palmer at 1 p.m. Thursday at Palmer. Homer (6-6-1) lost 3-0 to the Moose this season.

Sports briefs: Soldotna hockey, wrestling teams secure wins at weekend tournaments

SoHi hockey won the End of the Road tournament in Homer and the wrestling team gained 20 individual wins.

The Kenai Central High School varsity volleyball team is named the 2025 3A Volleyball State Championship Tournament, held Nov. 13-15, 2025, at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage, Alaska.
