The Houston hockey team, the defending Division II champions, defeated Tri-Valley 10-0 on Saturday at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex to win the Peninsula Ice Challenge with a 3-0 record.
Also Saturday at the sports complex, Soldotna topped Kenai 5-1. The Stars take second with a 2-1 record, the Kards are third at 1-2 and Tri-Valley is last at 0-3.
Kenai took the lead against Soldotna when Avery Martin scored. Jace Appelhans had it tied for the Stars before the first period was over.
The Stars then scored two goals in the second period and two goals in the third period. Appelhans added another goal, while Boone Theiler had two goals and Dawson Lockwood also had a goal.
For the game, Silas Larsen had three assists, while Zack Zurfluh and Appelhans also had two assists. SoHi coach Anthony Zurfluh said Appelhans, Theiler and Larsen all had solid tournaments for the Stars.
Jackson Purcell had 24 saves for the Stars, while Evyn Witt stopped 17 for the Kardinals.
