Homer softball rallies to defeat Soldotna

The Homer softball team opened their season with a doozy, rallying from a six-run deficit to defeat Northern Lights Conference opponent Soldotna 15-7 Tuesday evening at Jack Gist park in Homer.

Briana Hetrick and Mary Hana Bowe led the Mariners to the comeback victory with three base hits, while Elsie Smith hit 2 for 2 with two RBIs. Soldotna was led by Tara Lynn Frates and Taylor Earll, who collected two hits apiece. Earll also knocked in two runs.

Annalynn Brown earned the win for Homer in the pitching circle, giving up three earned runs on four hits in five innings of work. Brown walked five and struck out three.

Danielle Hills threw 125 pitches en route to the loss for SoHi, giving up 13 earned runs on 12 hits and seven walks in 4 1-3 innings. Hills whiffed three batters.
