Weekend volleyball roundup

The visiting Wasilla volleyball team swept Soldotna on Friday and Saturday in Northern Lights Conference action. Friday’s scores were 25-13, 25-22 and 25-16, while Saturday’s scores were 25-12, 25-9 and 25-14.

The Stars are now 1-3 in the league and 3-4 overall.

Friday, Sadie Lane had eight kills for SoHi, while Sarah Brown had 24 assists and Hallie Fischer had three aces.

Saturday, Lane had six kills while Athena Rossiter had three blocks and two aces, and Sarah Brown had 15 assists and eight digs.

Kenai 3, Homer 0

The visiting Kenai Central volleyball team defeated Homer on Saturday 25-19, 25-17 and 25-22 in Southcentral Conference action.

The Kardinals improved to 4-1 in nontournament play and 3-0 in the league, while Homer dropped to 0-3 and 0-6.

Emma Beck had 15 kills, 13 digs and four aces for the Kards, while Ellsi Miller had three kills, Sophie Tapley had three kills, Jaycie Castillo had 21 digs and Kate Wisnewski had 21 assists and 10 digs.

For Homer, Channing Lowney had 13 kills, Alexandra Casey had six kills and Auden Cress had four aces.

Nikiski finishes up Sitka trip

The visiting Nikiski volleyball team defeated Sitka 25-9 and 26-24 on Friday before losing to Mt. Edgecumbe by scores of 25-23, 25-27, 25-20 and 10-15.

Saturday, Nikiski lost to Sitka 25-17, 21-25 and 15-13, before sweeping Mt. Edgecumbe 25-18, 25-11 and 25-16. The Bulldogs stand at 6-3 in nontournament play.

Friday against Sitka, Kailey Stynsberg had 11 digs, Maggie Grenier had nine assists, Alexa Iyatunguk had six kills, and Ashlynne Playle had seven kills and two blocks.

Friday against Mt. Edgecumbe, Stynsberg had 35 digs, Grenier had 27 digs and 21 assists, Iyatunguk had nine kills, Playle had 13 kills and four blocks, and Avery Ellis had 15 assists and two aces.

Saturday against Sitka, Iyatunguk had seven kills, Playle had five kills and three blocks, and Abby White had seven digs.

Saturday against Mt. Edgecumbe, Stynsberg had 25 digs, Grenier had 14 digs and 15 assists, Iyatunguk had eight kills and three aces, Playle had 10 kills and two blocks, and Mandee Roofe had seven kills and seven blocks.
