The Kenai Central girls racked up a 43-35 victory Friday over South to advance to the Maroon bracket fourth-place game at the Anchorage Kia Dimond Lady Lynx Prep Shootout.
Brooke Satathite keyed the Kardinals to the win with 17 points, all in the second half, including nine in the fourth quarter.
Kenai trailed 21-12 at halftime but rallied in the third quarter by outscoring South 16-6 to cut the gap to one point, then finished the comeback by winning the fourth quarter 15-8.
In other game action at Dimond, the Lathrop girls staged their own comeback against Soldotna to pick up a 33-31 win in the Maroon bracket semifinals. The loss dropped SoHi into the bracket’s third-place game.
SoHi led 24-18 at halftime, but the Malamutes defense turned on the pressure in the second half, outscoring the Stars 8-1 in the third quarter and 15-7 overall in the second half to take the win.
Aliann Schmidt led the Stars offense with 10 points, while Danica Schmidt and Brittani Blossom each tallied nine.
Homer Winter Carnival
The Homer girls crushed Dillingham Friday 54-11 in their home round-robin tournament.
Rylyn Todd led the Mariners with 14 points while teammate Grace Godfrey chipped in 10. Homer used stifling defense to take a 26-5 lead at halftime, then won the third quarter 14-6 to grab a 40-11 lead and finished the game by keeping Dillingham scoreless in the fourth quarter.
The Homer boys were just as dominant, racking up a 60-17 victory over Dillingham. Nine players scored for the Mariners, led by the 17 points from Koby Etzwiler.
Homer staked out a 15-2 lead after one quarter and 30-9 advantage at halftime, then won the third frame 18-2 to clinch the victory.
In other games, the Kotzebue and Mt. Edgecumbe teams forged a split, as the Kotzebue girls beat Edgecumbe 38-34, and the Edgecumbe boys prevailed 72-59 over Kotzebue.
Valdez Elks Tournament
The Kenai Central boys punched their spot in Saturday’s tournament title game with a 46-42 Friday semifinal win over Eielson.
Both Seward squads won Friday to advance into the tournament fourth-place games in Valdez.
The Seward boys toppled Galena 51-42, while the Seward girls beat Eielson 36-26.
Zen Petrosius scored a game-high 18 points for Seward and was joined by Connor Spanos, who notched 17.
The Seahawks led 24-22 at halftime but eventually put a gap on Galena by winning the third quarter 15-8 and held on from there.

Seward trailed early with a 10-8 deficit to Eielson after the first quarter, but outscored the Ravens in the second to take a 17-16 lead at the half. The Seahawks won the third quarter 13-5 to secure the victory.
Ninilchik Invitational
The Nikolaevsk boys racked up two victories Friday in Ninilchik, starting with a dominant showing over Akiak 73-42 and continuing with a crushing win over conference rival Ninilchik 64-24.
Against Akiak, Nikolaevsk jumped out to a 24-4 lead in the first quarter and pushed it to 42-20 by halftime. The Warriors iced the contest with a 19-8 third quarter run.
Nikolaevsk then rolled over host team Ninilchik later in the day, led by a balanced scoring effort. Lukah Kalugin paced the Warriors with 12 points and JD Mumey and Michael Trail each had 10. Ninilchik’s Tristan White scored eight points and Cole Hadro notched seven.
Nikolaevsk suffocated Ninilchik with defense early in taking a 27-2 lead, which expanded to 46-7 at halftime.
Earlier in the day, the Ninilchik girls lost 39-28 to Kodiak, despite 22 points from DeeAnn White, who sunk 9 of 12 free throws.
The Wolverines never trailed by much, as Kodiak took an 18-12 lead at halftime and maintained it at 24-18 at the end of three quarters.
Meanwhile, the Nikolaevsk girls lost a narrow 57-56 contest to Akiak. Elizabeth Fefelov poured in 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Warriors, while Kristin Klaich brought down 15 boards. Mariana Yakunin netted 21 points as well.
In a game of swings, Akiak led 21-18 early, but Nikolaevsk won the second quarter 15-6 to take a 33-27 halftime lead. Akiak then outscored Nikolaevsk 23-11 in the third before the Warriors had one more comeback, outscoring Akiak 12-7 in the fourth.
In other Friday games, the Akiak girls crushed Effie Kokrine 91-39 and the Kodiak boys beat Effie Kokrine 70-28.
CIA boys 40, Homer C 35
The Cook Inlet Academy boys picked up their first overall win of the season Friday with a victory over the Homer C team in Soldotna.
Jiabao Leaf led CIA with 11 points and Hunter Moos added nine. The Eagles led 15-12 at halftime but the Mariners came back to within a point entering the fourth quarter. CIA outscored Homer 13-7 the rest of the way to clinch the win.
