The visiting Kenai Central baseball team toppled Redington 15-2 in five innings Friday in nonconference action.
The Kardinals are 4-1 overall. They led 1-0 after two innings, but then had a 15-0 lead by the top of the fifth inning.
Gabe Joanis started with three scoreless innings for Kenai, allowing a hit. Keoni Beddow then had a scoreless inning, allowing a hit. Daniel Steffensen closed by allowing two unearned runs on a hit in an inning.
At the plate, Steffensen was 2 for 3 with four runs and two RBIs, and Braden Smith was 2 for 4 with two runs and an RBI. Also, Jacob Joanis scored three runs, Gabe Joanis was 2 for 4, and Beddow and Garrett McCanna had two runs apiece.
Kodiak 3, Homer 0
The Mariners fell to 1-1 in the Northern Lights Conference and 6-3 overall after getting shut out by the Bears on Friday.
Weston Marley pitched a solid complete game for Homer, yielding three runs — two earned — on five hits while walking three and striking out seven.
Homer managed five hits and six walks, but could not push across a run. Jayden Sims and Clyde Clemens each had two hits, while Willem Hakala had one.
Soldotna suffers sweep in Anchorage
The visiting Stars fell to 3-9-2 after losing to Service 10-4 in five innings and Eagle River 3-0 on Friday. The Division II Stars have played all of their games, except one, against Division I opponents.
Against Service, SoHi led 4-1 entering the bottom of the fifth inning before the Cougars exploded for nine runs.
Trenton Ohnemus started and went two innings, allowing an unearned run on two hits. Wyatt Gagnon then gave up six runs on three hits and four walks in 2 2-3 innings. Easton Hawkins gave up three unearned runs on a hit in one-third of an inning.
At the plate, Malakai BeDunnah was 1 for 3 with a run, Matthew Schilling was 1 for 2 with two runs, Ohnemus had a run, Gagnon was 1 for 3 with three RBIs, and Jett Brophy had an RBI.
Against Eagle River, Brophy turned in a solid performance on the mound, going all six innings and giving up three runs — two earned — on three hits.
The Stars managed just four hits — two by Tucker Blough and one each by Schilling and Brenden Theel.
