Paul Lujan, a reliever for the Peninsula Oilers this season, has earned a contract with the independent Rockford (Illinois) Aviators.
Lujan graduated from West Texas A&M University and did not have any pro options, so he came up to Alaska to play with the Oilers.
As the closer, Lujan appeared in 17 games for the Oilers, giving up just two earned runs in 23 1-3 innings pitched. He had eight saves, 24 strikeouts and just seven walks.
Oilers starting pitcher David Diaz also had worked out a deal with the Aviators before he left the peninsula.
