Two former members of the Soldotna track and field team earned All-American honors at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in Brookings, South Dakota, over the weekend

Galen Brantley III, a junior at Dickinson State in Dickinson, North Dakota, finished third in the shot put at 55 feet, 7.5 inches.

Brantley III had also earned All-American honors last season at indoor nationals by taking third at 54—9.5.

Last season, Brantley III improved by 20.5 inches at the national meet, and he again came up big at nationals this season. He had been ranked 11th in NAIA coming into the meet, with his best throw this indoor season at 53—10.5.

Adarra Hagelund, a sophomore at Dickinson State, earned her first All-American honors by taking fourth in the high jump with a mark of 5—8.5.

Hagelund had the NAIA lead at 5—8.75 coming into the meet. Emma Valentine of Siena Heights went 5—9.75 to win the meet.

Dylan Dahlgren, another sophomore at Dickinson, also competed at nationals for Dickinson State in the weight throw. He was 19th in 56—9.25.

Jacoby, Longhorns dominate Big 12 Championship

Seward’s Lydia Jacoby, now a sophomore at the University of Texas, swept the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke at the Big 12 Championship in Morgantown, West Virginia, for the second straight year to help the Longhorns to the team title.

The Texas women won 21 of 22 events to win their 12th straight Big 12 title. The Longhorns will leave the Big 12 after this season having won 22 of the 28 conference titles in their time there.

Jacoby won the 200 breaststroke Saturday with a season-best 2 minutes, 5.58 seconds.

Friday, Jacoby won the 100 breaststroke in 57.27 seconds, breaking a meet record and a pool record. Teammate Anna Elendt was second at 57.65.

Jacoby’s time also was fourth in the nation this year. She won the NCAA title in the 100 breaststroke last season with a time of 57.03.
