The Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks held off the Peninsula Oilers for a 6-4 victory Wednesday at Coral Seymour Memorial Park in Kenai.

The Oilers dropped to 5-6 in the Alaska Baseball League, and are three games behind the Anchorage Bucs, the leaders of the American League.

The Chinooks notched their third league victory in 16 tries thanks to a 10-hit attack and a stellar effort on the mound by Kyle McDorman.

McDorman went 8 1-3 innings, allowing six hits and four runs while walking three and striking out two.

McDorman threw 100 pitches. In a postgame radio interview on 1140 AM, he said he threw a lot of sliders and mainly tried to keep the ball in the strike zone.

Down 6-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth, the Oilers tried to rally against McDorman.

The Oilers made it 6-3 and had one out with runners on the corners when McDorman was lifted for Lance Phillips.

Phillips got Jeff Paschke to ground to second, but the ball was booted to put runners on first and second with one out and a 6-4 score.

However, Phillips was able to retire Josh Rose and Jake Sandlin to end the threat.

The Oilers and Chinooks finish off a three-game series today at 7 p.m. at Seymour Park.
