Central peninsula teams wins Kenai Invite fastpitch tourney

The AK Riptide, a team of players from Soldotna and Kenai, won the Under-18 portion of the Kenai Invitational on Saturday and Sunday in Kenai.

In round-robin play, U14 Black Ice from Anchorage defeated Homer Tsunami 13-11, Riptide defeated U18 Black Ice 10-5, Riptide defeated Tsunami 20-5, U14 Black Ice defeated U18 Black Ice 13-9, Riptide defeated U14 Black Ice 16-5 and Tsunami defeated U18 Black Ice 4-2.

That set the stage for bracket play. In the first round, U18 Black Ice defeated U14 Black Ice 13-9, while Riptide stopped Tsunami 13-0. Riptide then defeated U18 Black Ice 14-5 to advance to the final.

In the loser’s bracket, U14 Black Ice stopped the Tsunami 10-8, then U14 Black Ice defeated U18 Black Ice 13-8. AK Riptide then clinched the title by defeating U14 Black Ice 23-5.

In the U12 tournament, Arctic Heat from Eagle River swept U12 Homer Tsunami in Saturday and Sunday doubleheaders.

The tournament was put on by the Central Peninsula Fastpitch Softball Club.
