Brown Bears’ Morgan nabs Midwest Division Star of Week

Peter Morgan of the Kenai River Brown Bears was named the North American Hockey League Bauer Midwest Division Star of the Week on Monday.

Morgan, 19, from Sarasota, Florida, had a big three-game series as the Brown Bears pulled off a sweep of the Springfield (Illinois) Jr. Blues. Morgan, who is 5-foot-6, 155 pounds, had two goals and four assists in the series and finished plus-5.

Friday, Morgan had two goals and two assists, and also had an assist in the Thursday and Saturday games. Morgan has played in 11 games for Kenai River since arriving in a trade, and has 11 points.

“Peter has been very good for us since coming over in a trade,” Kenai River head coach Kevin Murdock said in a released statement. “He comes ready to work every day and it’s showing up in the consistency of his play over these past few weeks.

“We’re really happy that he is finding success.”

The Bears, in first place in the Midwest Division, host the second-place Fairbanks Ice Dogs in a three-game series at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex. Thursday’s game is at 7 p.m., while the puck will drop at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
