We had an amazing week of weather and an even better week of golf, with the third installment of the Soldotna Jr Masters tournament taking place Monday and Tuesday. To sum up the event, we had four local juniors win their divisions in Katelin Richards, Anika Richards, Shane Sundberg and Richie Lundahl Jr. Congratulations to them, and a huge thank you to all the volunteers and parents that helped make this tournament a success.

With the junior tournament taking up Monday and Tuesday, both the seniors and the ladies played their games on Wednesday morning.

Club Results

Tuesday Couples Night

We had six couples come out to test the strengths of their marriage, playing alternate shot for nine holes. It was a beautiful evening, and ultimately the Cowans and the Jelsmas tied with net 40s. Darell (of the Jeslmas) also hit it close at the eighth, while Mike Chenault chose the right club at the sixth.

Wednesday Morning Seniors

A small group of men came out this week, with schedules being a little thrown off. Closest to the pins on Nos. 6 and 8 went to Steve Tachick and John Davis, and John also had the longest putt made at the ninth. He went on to tie Darell Jelsma with net 32s.

Wednesday Morning Ladies

Twelve ladies worked out their calendars to come out and compete this week. Cheryl Hammarstrom took both low gross and low net, while Kaycee Christensen and Sonja Rider had chip-ins on Nos. 1 and 8. Sally Tachick won the mystery hole, with the best poker hand.

Wednesday Evening Men’s Night

Again, a smaller group of 11 came out later that evening to play. There were plenty of birdies out there, with scores of 29, 30 and 32 and three pure birdies in the mix. Overall, Robert Stiver, Brad Carver, Tom Hodel and Shane Sundberg had the low team score at 29. Rory Frey hit it to within 5 feet on No. 6 and Kevin Downs hit it to about 12 feet on No. 8. Shane Sundberg also got long drive. Great job Shane!
