Arneson finishes 2nd at Alyeska Cirque Series

The 5.9-mile course gained and lost 3,890 feet of elevation.

Anchorage’s Lars Arneson, a 2009 graduate of Cook Inlet Academy, led runners with Kenai Peninsula ties at the 2021 Alyeska Cirque Series race Saturday at Alyeska Resort in Girdwood.

On a 5.9-mile course that gained and lost 3,890 feet of elevation, Arneson finished second among men with a time of 1 hour, 7 minutes, 43 seconds. Anchorage’s Scott Patterson, an Olympic skier, won the race at 1:05:27.

The Cirque Series has pro, expert and sport divisions. Seward’s Erik Johnson won the expert division, and also finished fourth overall, at 1:11:51. Soldotna’s Galen Hecht was fourth in the expert division and ninth overall at 1:14:34.

Seward’s Ruby Lindquist and Brook Wedin both made the top 10 in the women’s race. Sophia Laukli of Yarmouth, Maine, won at 1:14:55, while Lindquist was fifth overall and fourth in the pro division with 1:26:01. Wedin was fourth in the expert division and eighth overall at 1:33:15.

Also from the peninsula in the men’s race, Seward’s Pyper Dixon was 28th overall at 1:23:09, Seward’s Kenny Regan was 32nd at 1:24:41, Seward’s Trevor Kreznar was 48th at 1:30:19, Seward’s Bjorn Nilsson was 51st at 1:30:44, Soldotna’s Ben McGarry was 83rd at 1:42:27, Soldotna’s Thorn Simnitt was 87th at 1:43:21, Kenai’s Erik Lehmann was 96th at 1:48:40, Soldotna’s Chad Arthur was 128th at 1:58:09, Seward’s Zen Petrosius was 134th at 2:00:46, Kenai’s Miles Jorgensen was 152nd in 2:10:35, Kenai’s Andrew Walsh was 158th in 2:11:57, Soldotna’s James Watkins was 166th in 2:14:41, Kenai’s Rob Parrish was 173rd in 2:19:05 and Kenai’s Kyle Downum was 203rd in 2:51:57.

Also from the peninsula in the women’s race, Seward’s Cedar Bourgeois was 20th at 1:43:13, Seward’s Nico Christopher was 24th at 1:44:18, Seward’s Rachel Dow was 36th at 1:49:01, Seward’s Kristen Sieminski was 68th at 2:02:25, Seward’s Shelby Sieminski was 69th at 2:02:25, Seward’s Annika Nilsson was 71st at 2:02:29 and Seward’s Binget Nilsson was 73rd at 2:02:52.
