Area volleyball teams pile up experience at West Spiketacular

The Kenai Central volleyball team led the Kenai Peninsula at the West Spiketacular by taking second in the Silver Bracket.

The Kardinals started out play in the bracket by topping Juneau-Douglas 2-1. Kenai then defeated Eagle River 2-0 to move to the championship match.

In the Bronze Bracket, Soldotna recovered from going winless in Friday pool play to win the bracket. Senior Aleena Zener made the all-tournament team for helping the Stars to the title.

Soldotna defeated Wasilla 2-1 in the championship match. The Stars started their day with a 2-0 win over Grace Christian, then defeated Homer 2-0, then defeated Ketchikan 2-1 to reach the finals.

Homer ended up fourth in the bracket, defeating West Valley 2-1 before the loss to SoHi pushed the Mariners into the playback bracket. There, Homer defeated Nikiski 2-0 before falling to Wasilla 2-0.
