The visiting Soldotna softball team outlasted Kenai Central 22-16 on Thursday in Northern Lights Conference action at Steve Shearer Memorial Ball Park.

The game lasted for 3 hours and 22 minutes.

“It was a well-played game,” Kenai coach John Manley said. “The difference to me was Soldotna scored a bunch of runs early on in the game. We kept it even the rest of the way.”

Soldotna coach Kelli Knoebel gave her squad credit for holding strong during all the times Kenai battled back.

“It’s been a long week for the kids,” Knoebel said. “They showed a lot of resilience.”

Taralynn Frates pitched the whole game for the Stars, while Savannah Jones went the distance for the Kardinals. Both coaches were satisfied with their pitchers.

For Soldotna, Casey Card led the way by going 4 for 4 with five RBIs. Her day included a triple and two doubles. Also for SoHi, Reice Wick was 3 for 5 with four RBIs, Casey Earll was 2 for 5 with four RBIs and Bailey Berger had two singles.

Knoebel also said leadoff hitter Ashley McDonald continues to do a great job getting on base.

For the Kardinals, Alyssa Stanton had two runs, while Lexy Carrasco, Leinani Rapoza, Kiera Duby and Neirad Phillips all had key hits.

Manley also said Carrasco had a great day at shortstop.
