Triumvirate debuts the Disney musical “Tarzan” at Soldotna Creek Park

The crew at Triumvirate Theatre is back with summer performances this year, starting Saturday with the musical “Tarzan,” based on the Disney film.

AJ Seims, director of the show and Triumvirate Theatre board member, said he’s excited to be part of another round of summer performances.

“If it’s anything like it was last year we had a lot of people show up,” he said Tuesday.

Seims is located in Wasilla and usually directs shows around the Matanuska-Susitna area, but last year he directed the Triumvirate’s “Little Mermaid” summer show. He’s back for “Tarzan” this summer.

The crew has had to adapt to a quick turnaround for this performance in particular, and even though they’re “down to the wire,” Seims said everyone has been a pleasure to work with.

“They’re a great cast,” he said. “(I) couldn’t ask for a better cast.”

Seims himself will be in the production, playing the villain. He said he doesn’t usually like to both direct and act, but that he had trouble casting for the role.

“It’s hard switching from director mode to actor mode,” he said.

But even with all the final touches, he said he’s excited to get on stage.

“I think it’s going to be a really awesome show,” he said.

“Tarzan” opens at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Soldotna Creek Park, with another performance at 1 p.m. on July 16. The shows are free to the public.

Triumvirate Theatre is also selling premium parking tickets for $25 online at https://triumviratetheatre.ticketleap.com/tarzan-premium-parking/. Premium parking will be in the Kenai Watershed Forum parking lot.
