Moderate quake shakes peninsula

Information is still being processed on a moderate earthquake that shook up the Kenai Peninsula Saturday night.

The Alaska Earthquake Center noted a quake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.2 on the peninsula about 10 miles north of Ninilchik, according to an information release from the center. The tremblor clocked in at 8:25 p.m. and had a depth of about 40 miles, according to the release.

“No reports of this event causing damage have been received at this time,” the release states.

The center’s release notes that the magnitude and location of the earthquake may change as more data are processed.
