Congress must address campaign spending

Over six years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court made one of the worst rulings in this country’s history on Citizens United vs. FEC.

The majority on the Court decided that money is speech and corporations are people. Since that decision in 2010, unions and corporate entities have contributed unlimited funds to elections. It has to stop! We must demand that Congress pass legislation to overturn Citizens United and return the election process to the citizens of this country.

I urge all Alaskans to support House Joint Resolution 31, which asks Congress to overturn Citizens United and restore free and fair elections in our country. Contact your legislators and ask them to vote in favor of this resolution. Money is NOT speech and corporations are NOT people! It’s time to remove big money from our political process. We, the people, should decide who our elected officials will be, not a bunch of rich people, corporations and unions.
