South hockey tops Homer

PALMER — It was a rough night for Homer during the first day of the Palmer Hockey Showdown at the MTA Events Center in Palmer.

South Anchorage drilled the Mariners 15-2 Thursday evening. Ben Trujillo, Asa Kinnear and Nick Corbin each posted a hat trick for the Wolverines. Patrick Rush scored twice for South, which tallied five goals in each period.

Garrett Butcher and Dimitry Kuzmin scored for Homer, which was outshot 45-17.

The Mariners continue play in the tournament Friday at 3 p.m. against East Anchorage and Saturday at 9 a.m. against Lathrop.
