Skiers compete in Besh Cup races

Skiers from the area and around the state of Alaska competed in the second day of Besh Cup racing Sunday at Bartlett High School in Anchorage. The races are used to select Alaska representatives to the Junior Olympics and to the Arctic Winter Games.

The Junior 2/Junior 3 girls race was won by Whitehorse’s Janelle Greer, who used the classical technique to ski five kilometers in 15 minutes, 35.9 seconds. Homer’s Claire Laukitis was 22nd, Homer’s Emma Teal Laukitis was 26th, Soldotna Middle School’s Kailey Mucha was 33rd and Soldotna Middle School’s Bree Mucha was 54th.

In the women’s race, Kate Pearson won the classical, five-kilometer event with a time of 14:46.1. Homer graduate Aleta Phelps was ninth, Skyview graduate Stephanie Lambe was 35th, Homer’s Erika Klaar was 44th, Seward’s Sarah Glaser was 46th and Soldotna graduate Katie Franzmann was 55th.

In the boys Junior 2 race, Eric Parker used the classical technique to cover five kilometers in 13:19.5 to get the victory. Kenai’s Trent Semmens was 18th and Skyview’s Tommy Honer was 22nd.

In the men’s race, Zach Violett covered 10 kilometers using the classical technique in 25:35.9 to get the win. Soldotna graduate Brent Knight was third in 26:14.4. Homer’s Morgan Jones was 31st, Skyview graduate Noah King was 32nd, Homer’s Jens Klaar was 55th, Kenai’s Dustin Reid was 56th, Soldotna’s Max Milliron was 60th, Kenai’s Christopher Hall was 64th, Skyview’s Erick Romig was 68th, Homer’s Gus Beck was 75th, Skyview’s Lucas Thein was 78th, Seward’s David Apperson was 80th, Soldotna’s Caleb Chase was 84th, Soldotna’s Steve Milliron was 87th, Homer’s Kenneth Jones was 92nd and Soldotna graduate Spencer Litzenberger was 95th.
