Duties divvied out: Assembly members assigned to committees

Committee leadership assignments have been divvied out on the newly constituted Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly.

Bill Smith, of Homer is now chair the Finance Committee, joined by Gary Superman, of Nikiski, as vice chair.

The Lands Committee is headed up by Gary Knopp, of Kalifornsky, and Charlie Pierce, newly elected member from Sterling/Funny River, is vice chair.

Chairing the Policies and Procedures Committee is Pete Sprague, of Soldotna, with Paul Fischer, of Kasilof, serving as vice chair.

Ron Long, of Seward, is chairing the Legislative Committee. Hal Smalley, of Kenai, is vice chair. All assembly members serve on the Legislative Committee.

Smith has also been named president pro tem.

Members of the assembly also serve on other borough and school district committees listed below:

* KPB Emergency Planning: Pete Sprague, Gary Knopp, alternate.

* Planning Commission Representative: Gary Knopp, Bill Smith, alternate.

* Kenai Peninsula Borough Board of Education: Hal Smalley, Paul Fischer, alternate.

* Kenai Peninsula Borough Employees Association Health Care: Charlie Pierce, Pete Sprague.

* Kenai Peninsula Schools Activities Association: vacant.

Assembly members also have been assigned to serve as liaisons to the various service area boards.

Assembly President Milli Martin will serve in that capacity for the Anchor Point Fire and Emergency Medical Service Area, the Kachemak Emergency Service Area Board, and on the South Peninsula Hospital Service Area Board. Bill Smith will also do liaison duties with SPH Service Area Board.

Ron Long has been assigned as liaison to the Bear Creek Fire Service Area Board, Lowell Point Emergency Service Area Board, and the Seward/Bear Creek Flood Service Area Board.

Hal Smalley and Gary Knopp will be liaisons to the Central Peninsula General Hospital board. Knopp will also be liaison to the Kenai Peninsula Borough Road Service Area Board, along with Pierce.

Gary Superman will be liaison to the Nikiski seniors, Nikiski Fire and North Peninsula Recreation service area boards.
