Youth hunt available; adults needed

The Kenai Peninsula Chapter of Safari Club International (SCI) and 4-H Shooting Sports Program in partnership with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game's Hunter Education Program, is inviting youth ages 10- to 16-years-old to participate in an organized small game hunting experience.

Each weekend through the end of December, pairs of adult Hunter Education and 4-H certified mentors will escort pairs of youths for one day of supervised small game hunting.

Adult mentors are needed and parents and guardians may participate. Firearms and instruction, ammunition, transportation and lunch, orange vests, hearing and eye protection will be provided.

If not certified, participating youth will be encouraged to enroll in an upcoming Hunter Education certification class and the 4-H Shooting Sports Program. This program is an opportunity for area youth and adult mentors who are interested in ensuring the future of Alaska's hunting heritage.

Basketball camp set

Soldotna High School will host a Youth Basketball Camp for kids in grades kindergarten through sixth Dec. 5 and 12. Kindergarten through third grade will run from noon to 1:30 p.m. and grades four though six will run from 1:30 to 3 p.m. The cost is $35. Participants will receive a camp T-shirt.
