Chambers set luncheon schedules
* The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce's luncheon will be held at noon Tuesday at Froso's Restaurant. A presentation on the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank is scheduled. For more information, call Michelle Glaves at 262-9814.
* The Kenai Chamber of Commerce will not meet next week.
Small Business Development Center sponsors seminars
The Alaska Small Business Development Center is sponsoring the following seminars:
* Profit Mastery (9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday) -- This two-day seminar will will empower you to make better business decisions so you can make and keep more of your hard-earned money. The fee is $250. Participants will determine and evaluate the current financial position of a case study business utilizing industry benchmarks and formulas with real-world experience to gain the skills and tools needed to drive improved financial performance.
Online registration and payment is required by Monday.
* Financing your business (10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 1) -- Brendyn Shiflea, First National Bank of Alaska, Kenai Branch Manager, will cover the key elements for obtaining business loans and working funds. The agenda includes selecting your banker, types of loans, steps in loan preparation, etc.
Registration is required by Tuesday. The seminar is free.
* Build a business plan (1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 8) -- Learn methods to establish budgets, monetary amounts or percentages and how to evaluate your successes and failures. The fee is $25; registration deadline is Dec. 3.

Soldotna Chamber plans Business After Hours, open house
Stanley Ford at the "Y" in Soldotna will host Business After Hours on from 5 to 7 p.m. today. Bring a can of food to donate to get an extra entry in the Grand Prize Giveaway.
Blue Moose Bed and Biscuit at 39310 Hallelujah Trail Dr. in Soldotna will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. A drawing for pet boarding will be held.
Kenai Peninsula Economic Development District sponsors workshop
The Kenai Peninsula Economic Development District is sponsoring the following workshop:
AK Source Link workshop (8:30 a.m -2 p.m. today) -- This one day workshop will help with the following: find experts on business planning, financing and marketing; search the database that connects you to services and resources; navigate the resource library; how to start or expand your business; where to get technical assistance; how to stay on top of business news; what new services are available in our area; what events are happening in your area; and how to adjust your bottom line to be more profitable.
Presenters will be Linda Ketchum with the University of Alaska and Bryan Zak with the Small Business Development Center, Soldotna.
Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. The registration deadline is Monday.

Peninsula Job Center to host occupational injury workshop
The Peninsula Job Center will host an Alaska Department of Wage and Hour "Occupational Injury and Illness Reporting Requirements" workshop at the Peninsula Job Center at 10:30 a.m. today. This seminar is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. For more information or to register, call 907-283-2913.
Beer, wine and food tasting event planned
The Resurrection Bay Conservation Alliance's third annual beer, wine, and food tasting event is 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Alaska SeaLife Center, 301 Railway Ave. in Seward.
Local brewers and vintners will be offering their wares featuring: Midnight Sun Brewing Co., Bear Creek Winery, Ring of Fire Meadery, Alaskan Brewing Co., Moose's Tooth Brewing Co., St. Elias Brewing Co., Kassik's Kenai Brew Stop, Kenai River Brewing Co., Denali Brewing Co., and Seward's own Malt Marathon Home Brew Club.
Savory Alaska appetizers and desserts will be prepared by area culinary enthusiasts competing in the annual Chef Off. Live entertainment and a silent auction are planned.
Entertainment will be provided by Elite 9 (Jazz), Fir Og (Irish musicians), and Luna Dancers (Belly Dancers) and beer songs and ballads will sung by all (at least if you can and will sing).
Admission is $35 per person; $25 for RBCA members; $45 for membership and admission. Tickets are available at the door or the office in the Phoenix Building, 909 Third Ave., Seward.

The following businesses will be participating in holiday food drives to benefit the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank:
GCI; Home Depot; IGA Country Foods; King's Treasures (bring in cans of food for a discount); Ninilchik Senior Citizens; Peninsula Health Center (for 25 pounds of food, an individual will receive a complete chiropractic examination and treatment; call 260-4844 for an appointment); Save U More; Sears catalog store; Spenard Builders (Kenai Millwork, Soldotna, K-Beach battle between the branches); Stanley Chrysler (help fill the truck in competition with Stanley Ford); Stanley Ford (help fill the truck in competition with Stanley Chrysler); United Rentals (help the Peninsula Branch beat other Alaska branches).
Donate to the Food Bank's savings account or bring nonperishable items for the barrel at the following locations: AlaskaUSA Credit Union; First National Bank Alaska; KeyBank; Wells Fargo.
