Dillingham takes ACS Invite

Dillingham had three champions, three second-place finishers and three other placers to win the ACS Invitational on Saturday in Anchorage.

The ACS Invitational is a large meet feature the small schools and is considered a good measure of where teams will be in the small-schools state tournament.

Dillingham finished with 234 points, while runner-up Bethel had 203. From the peninsula, Nikiski was third, Seward was ninth, Voznesenka was 19th, Ninilchik was 26th and Seldovia was 29th.

For Nikiski, Matt Parker was third at 125, Kaden Spurgeon was third at 152, Josh Brown was fourth at 130, Karl Bucholz was fourth at 160, Nathan Stangel was fifth at 119, Tyler Peek was fifth at 145 and Henry Eide was fifth at 285.

For the Seahawks, Joe Nyholm was fourth at 171, Kyle Kain was fourth at 215, Bill Markowitz was fifth at 189 and Shane Douglas was sixth at 145.

Voznesenka's Leo Polushkin led the peninsula with a second-place showing at 285. Also for Voznesenka, Zenon Martushev was sixth at 160.

SoHi netters get awards

The Soldotna volleyball team picked up several awards after finishing a program-best fourth place at the Class 4A state volleyball tournament in Anchorage on Saturday.

Shana Powell and Emily Rohloff were named to the all-tournament team, while Leah Garske and Megan Hardy made the good sport team. The team, fans and coaches also were given the sportsmanship award.
