Play drop dead funny: Audience gets into the act at murder-mystery
Leave the game of Clue in the cupboard for another night; Miss Scarlet and Colonel Mustard will be far outdone with the Triumvirate Theatre's production of the audience participation murder-mystery, "Shop 'Til You Drop ... Dead."
"Shop 'Til You Drop ... Dead" is going to be a great night out for those who enjoy a theater experience, according to director Angie Nelson.
Neslon has directed a number shows for the Triumvirate Theater such as, "Over the River and Through the Woods," "You know the old Slaying," and "Insane with Power"-- all well-received shows and a night of fun for the community.
The premise of "Shop 'Til You Drop ... Dead" is that some members of the audience are chosen to play in the game show "Shop Til You Drop." The game show in itself is a lot of fun.
The plot thickens, though, as during the show, a murder is committed. During the intermission, the audience members have the opportunity to search the theater for clues as to "who-dun-it."
According to Nelson, "Shop 'Til You Drop ... Dead" is a perfect mix of audience interaction and suspense as audience members wait to see the clues unveiled.
Nelson said the audience should not expect to just sit through the show -- intuitiveness and deductive reasoning will be needed. Everyone loves a good CSI show; here's a chance to solve a local crime.
The Triumvirate Theatre is run by Joe Rizzo as well as Chris and Carla Jenness. It's located in the Peninsula Center Mall in Soldotna and is run under the umbrella of the Alaska Children's Institute for the Performing Arts, a non-profit corporation founded to bring the benefits of theater to children.
Since opening in 2005, the theater has done a number of productions geared toward children in addition to a number of community theater pieces.
As a special thank you to the audience, the Triumvirate Theatre is going to be auctioning off a piece of the set, a caricature of Jamie Nelson's character, "Bunny Sharp." The caricature was created by Chris Jenness. Raffle tickets are an additional $5; a winner will be drawn the night of the last performance.
The cast consists of a few veteran Triumvirate Theater members and a couple new faces. Angie Nelson and her husband, Jamie Nelson, Terri Burdick and Marc Berezin have performed with the Triumvirate before. Jenny Neyman is a Triumvirate cast member. Newcomers for the group are Tim Jordan and Nichole Egholm, rounding out the cast of seven.
Admission price for "Shop 'Til You Drop ... Dead" is $10. Tickets can be purchased at the Triumvirate Theatre. Show times are 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and Nov. 13 and 14. The show will last about an hour and a half.
The theater holds up to 90 people, so purchasing tickets in advance is recommended.
