Kenai Peninsula College

Instructors needed

Kenai Peninsula College has experienced explosive growth over the last several semesters and the need for additional qualified part-time faculty in various academic and career/technical areas has greatly increased.

KPC is especially looking for qualified instructors to teach online classes as distance education continues to expand. Instructors, who have taught online or via the online delivery system known as Elluminate Live, are especially encouraged to apply. Information regarding the application process can be found online at www. kpc.alaska.edu/administration/employment.html.

What does it take to teach at the University of Alaska? Part-time faculty who teach in academic areas should have a Masters degree in the discipline they apply for or in a closely related subject area. Those who wish to teach in career and technical disciplines must have a Bachelors degree or extensive expertise in the subject area.

Instructors are needed for accounting and computerized accounting systems, American sign language, anthropology, art, biology and microbiology, business, chemistry, emergency medical technology, English, environmental studies, history, industrial process instrumentation, languages, math, nutrition, occupational safety and health, oral communication, philosophy, physics, process and petroleum technology, social work and sociology.

In addition to compensation, adjunct faculty members receive a three-credit tuition waiver each semester they teach, transferable to family members if they choose. For more information, call 262-0317 or email inmer@uaa.alaska.edu .

UAA artist opens show at KRC

Mariano Gonzales, associate professor and current chair of UAA's art department, has an exhibit showing in the Gary L. Freeburg Gallery. The exhibit is a retrospective of his digital artwork. The works cover a wide range of subject matter, some illustrating his art as social commentary, others whimsical and lighthearted. The exhibit will continue through Nov. 19. Gonzales will be present for a closing reception from 5-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19. He will lecture about his work and answer questions from the audience.

The gallery hours are 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays.

Why recycle electronic equipment?

Find out the particulars of disposing electronic devices responsibly at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 4 in room 158 at KPC's Kenai River Campus. The KRC Sustainability Club, in collaboration with Re-Group, will host Reilly Kosinski, outreach coordinator for Total Reclaim- Anchorage, who will provide a presentation on why it is important to recycle electronic equipment. Kosinski will provide a hands-on demonstration of how to dispose of electronics responsibly--including how to destroy data in a hard drive. All questions about what happens in the recycling process will be answered. For more information about the presentation, contact Jan Wallace, of Re-Group, at 262-5098.

The presentation is timely, as the Soldotna Landfill will be having an electronic recycling event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 7. Fees for individual vehicles (non-commercial) are $15 for up to 3 monitors with additional monitors costing $15 each for disposal. Televisions are not considered monitors and require an additional $15 fee for units less than 19 inches or $25 for those greater than 19 inches.
