Longtime Soldotna resident Mae Eula Burman died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009 surrounded by her family at her home in Soldotna. She was 82.

Memorial services will be held 5 p.m., Monday, Nov. 2, 2009 at the Soldotna Church of God, 105 Redoubt Ave. in Soldotna. Pastor Alan Humphries will officiate. Graveside services will be held at the Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens, S.C.

Mrs. Burman was born Aug. 7, 1927 to John Earl and Jesse Mae (Sheriff) Bryant in Pickens. She lived in Duluth, Minn., and Lexington, Ky., before moving to Soldotna in 1983. Mrs. Burman was the owner of the Hair Force in Soldotna from 1984 to 2003 when she sold the business to her daughter, Debbie. She was Lutheran and was a member of the Elk's Lodge. Mrs. Burman furthered her education at Kenai Peninsula College learning basic typing and computer skills. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed crafts, gardening, travelling, playing cards, fishing and loved to dance.

"Mae, our mom, granny and friend, loved and befriended everyone she met. She was honest, outspoken and strong. We will miss her smiles, laughter and visits to the salon. Her journey through this life was lived to the fullest. The love she shared will be in our hearts and memories forever. We are comforted with the knowledge that your battle has ended and you have found peace. When we come home you will be there to meet us," wrote her family.

Mrs. Burman was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Burman. She is survived by her daughter and son in-law, Debbie (Burman) and Don Petroze of Soldotna; son, Perry Burman of Gordon, Wis.; daughter and son in-law, Priscilla and Kevin Markwood of Greenwood, S.C.; grandchildren, Ricky Bailey, Samantha and Katie Jones all of Soldotna, Lisa Jacobson of New Prague, Minn., Ron Ostrander of Barnum, Minn., Laura Miller of Baxter, Minn., Matt Ostrander of Durham, N.C., Joe Ostrander of Moundsview, Minn., Cody Burman of Denver, Colo., and Clay Burman of Las Vegas, Nevada; six great-grandchildren; sister and brother in-law, Cathryn and Sam DuVall of Easley, S.C.; and sister, Carolyn Bridges of Easley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mae's memory to the family, C/O Debbie Petroze, P.O. Box 1196, Sterling, AK 99672.

Local arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
