Smith, Theriot host seaside ceremony

Rebekah Smith and Justin Theriot were married in an afternoon seaside ceremony Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, in Homer. Dear friend of the couple, Jeff Laube, of Nikiski, officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Sophia Anderson, of Kenai, Michael Smith,of Louisiana, and Bob Stanford, of Kenai. She is a 1996 graduate of Kenai Central High School. She attends the University of Alaska Anchorage. Rebekah is employed as a certified nurses aide at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer. Her gown was a lace trumpet gown with beaded empire waist and pleated satin bodice and a chapel train. She carried a silk butterfly bouquet that was handmade by the bride's best friend, DeAnna Holly. The flower girls wore autumn themed dresses and included Autumn Kaiser, Maggie Grenier, Jane and Jill Churchill, Meghan and Emmalee Roney, and Dareena and Milena Doyle.

The groom is the son of Ron and Charlotte Theriot, of Reno. "Uncle Frodo" aka, Uncle Tommy served as the ring bearer. He is a 1994 graduate of Chancellor High School, in Virginia, and a 2000 graduate of University of Alaska Anchorage with a bachelor's degree in journalism. Justin is employed by American Marine on the North Slope as a spill technician and captain. He wore a tan colored suit accompanied with a pale yellow shirt and green silk tie.

The ceremony was followed with a traditional Athabascan Friendship Dance, officiated by the bride's aunts Donita Hensley, Sondra Shaginoff-Stuart, and mother, Sophia Anderson.

A reception followed at the Beluga Lake Lodge, where guests from all over the state of Alaska and the west and east coast celebrated the wedding while enjoying fresh caught seafood, homemade mead and beer, and dancing to the live music of a Cajun band.

Rebekah and Justin met in 1998 on the fishing docks along the Kenai River.

The couple will honeymoon on a two week cross-country trip in Costa Rica.

They make their home on Bald Mountain in Homer.
