Fire destroys car

Firefighters doused a vehicle fire near Kalifornsky Beach and Bridge Access roads Wednesday morning.

The fire was reported just before 8 a.m. Firefighters arrived to find a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix billowing smoke and the engine compartment ablaze, said Terry Bookey, acting captain at Central Emergency Services in Soldotna.

The fire was extinguished in minutes. The car's driver, Lailani Moffet, of Kenai, was not in the car. No injuries were reported. Bookey said everything in the engine compartment was destroyed.

The cause of the fire was unknown.
