42nd Annual Soldotna Progress Days Celebration clears the skiesŠ


Right on schedule, Mother Nature dried up the rain for the 42nd Annual Soldotna Progress Days parade last week, and followed it up with series of beautiful sunny days to highlight the summer celebration in Soldotna. The main sponsor again for this year's event was Unocal Alaska.

Nearly one hundred parade entries passed by the judge's stand in front of the Borough building on Binkley Street in Soldotna. Selected as the Grand Overall entry winner was the Dixieland band float of the Alaskan Hospitality B&B/Lodge.

The giant log chair created by Hanson's Carving of Sterling was judged the best Commercial Float, and the Body Pump demonstration by the Healthy Changes instructors was given a second place award by the judges.

The famous Weenies on parade entry was a runner up this year to the Alaska Cozy Cabin entry in the Adult category. For the Organizational float, 4-D Carpet and The Fitness Place were judged best. The Soldotna Cheerleaders won the best Youth Marching group award.

Following the parade the skies cleared and vendor booths and music were enjoyed by hundreds of visitors and families along West Park Avenue

Following the parade, with skies continuing to clear, hundreds of visitors and families walked down Park Avenue to the Soldotna Senior Citizens Center to enjoy the best midway and selection of vendor booths ever assembled.
