The Thunderbirds came from behind to win 6-5, sending the Twins to an 11 a.m. losers' bracket matchup with Bartlett today in the double-elimination tournament.
"We had two error that gave them three runs. We literally gave it to them. That's the bottom line," said Twins head coach John Kennedy.
The Twins scored first, plating a run in the bottom of the first inning. East struck for two in the top of the third, but the Twins made it 5-2 with three runs in the bottom of the third and one more in the fourth.
East tied the game with back-to-back home runs in the top of the sixth inning, though, and pushed the go-ahead run across the plate in the seventh after a baserunner reached on an error.
"That hurt us," Kennedy said, noting that the three unearned runs surrendered by his team were more costly than the home runs.
Kevin Epperheimer led the Twins at the plate with a 2-for-3 effort, scoring a run and driving in two. Jacob Madrid was 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, and Luke Gilbert had a hit and an RBI.
Erich Simpson was saddled with the loss for the Twins after relieving Alex Johansen with the score tied at five in the sixth.
