Three earthquakes shake Alaska


ANCHORAGE (AP) ‹ Three earthquakes struck different parts of Alaska Friday.

A moderate earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.3 occurred at 4:59 p.m. about 40 miles south of the village of Atka in the Aleutian Islands, according to the Alaska Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer.

Another quake with a preliminary 5.3 magnitude struck at 2:55 p.m. about 35 miles southeast of Nikolski.

Earlier, a light earthquake struck about 25 miles northeast of Cantwell, according to the Alaska Earthquake Information Center in Fairbanks. That quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 4.2., occurred at 12:29 a.m.

No injuries or damage were reported from the quakes.
