Oilers, Pilots split


The Peninsula Oilers and Anchorage Glacier Pilots split a doubleheader Thursday in Anchorage. The Pilots won the first game 5-4, while the Oilers won the second game 12-3.

In the first game, Pilots starter Gary Daley shut down the Oilers for most of the seven-inning contest to pick up the win. Daley allowed four runs on five hits, striking out nine and walking three in seven innings of work. The Oilers made a comeback bid in the top of the seventh inning, scoring three runs, but could not score the tying run.

Barry Enright was the losing pitcher for the Oilers, giving up two runs on three hits in just one inning of work. Matthew Meyer pitched four innings and gave up two runs on three hits, while Chase Christianson pitched one inning and gave up one run on two hits.

In the second game, the Oilers got to the Pilots for 15 hits. David Newby was 2-for-3, Joey Hendricks was 2-for-3, Nick Kliebert was 2-for-4, Jack Rye was 3-for-5 and Ryan Gipson was 3-for-4 for the Oilers.

The winning pitcher was Jesse Jordan. Jordan pitched seven innings and yielded three runs on four hits.

The Oilers face the Pilots today at 7 p.m. before traveling to face the Mat-Su Miners Saturday at 6 p.m.
