Palin to resign as governor

Gov. Sarah Palin announced Friday morning that she will resign her office "in a few weeks."

Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will be inaugurated July 25 during the Governor's Picnic in Pioneer Park in Fairbanks.

Palin did not say why she is resigning, but many have speculated she is gearing up for a run at the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.

The surprise announcement came during a news conference at Palin's home in Wasilla.
