The Oilers road trip continues today in Fairbanks as they face the Alaska Goldpanners at 7 p.m. The three-game series continues with games Monday and Tuesday, also scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Oilers took the first game 6-2 Saturday after waiting out a 1-hour rain delay. Game two was all Fire, though, as the Oilers absorbed a 13-4 drubbing.
In game one of the doubleheader, the Oilers needed an extra inning to beat the Fire as the game was tied at two after seven innings of regulation play.
The Oilers put the game away with four runs in the top of the eighth inning. Matt Inouye was awarded home plate on a balk call after reaching on a walk while Ryan Gipson, playing in his first game with the Oilers, hit an RBI double. David Newby drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Jake Kahaulelio knocked in a run with a base hit.
Jarrod Dumont pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out seven. Dumont left the game without a decision, and reliever Adam Reifer recorded two outs to end the seventh inning, then retired the side in order in the eighth to secure the win.
Kahaulelio and Gipson each were 3-for-4 from the plate for the Oilers while Nick Kliebert notched a pair of hits.
Things fell apart in the second game for the Oilers as the Fire batted around in both the third and fourth innings, building a 12-3 lead.
In an otherwise tough outing, Jack Rye hit a three-run triple in the fourth and drove in the Oilers' other run with a single in the sixth.
Ty Dunham took the loss for the Oilers as he was roughed up early and knocked out in the third inning. Jesse Jordan lasted just 1 1/3 innings in relief. Chuck Rider finished up for the Oilers, holding the Fire to two runs over the final four innings.
