McCally sends Oilers to second straight loss

Staff report

Bucs pitcher Ryan McCally threw a two-hit shutout to defeat the Peninsula Oilers 2-0 Tuesday in Alaska Baseball League play in Anchorage.

The loss drops the Oilers to 6-8 in the ABL. With the Glacier Pilots' extra-inning victory over the Mat-Su Miners Tuesday, the Oilers are now four games out of first place and have lost two straight.

Peninsula is also three games out of a National Baseball Congress World Series berth.

The Oilers will look to get back on the winning track today when they travel to face the Miners. Mat-Su is currently 4-12 in the league and solidly holding down last place.

Peninsula could not get anything going against McCally Tuesday. McCally walked just one, struck out nine and had his defense play an errorless game behind him.

The two Oilers hits came from Chris Kolkhorst and Jerrod Brown.

Oilers starter and loser Jake Postlewait turned in a solid effort, but it didn't match McCally. Postlewait threw the first five innings and gave up five hits and one unearned run. He walked two and struck out one.

Oscar Serrato came on in relief of Postlewait and tossed three innings, giving up one hit and one unearned run. He walked two and struck out one.
