Twins drop all 4 games on Fairbanks voyage
The American Legion Twins lost all four of their games on Tuesday and Wednesday in Fairbanks to fall to 8-16 overall.
On Tuesday, the Twins lost 14-13 and 16-6. In the second game, the Twins got some work out of young pitchers Evan Withrow and Braden Price.
"Even though the score was lopsided, we threw some young pitchers and I was pleased with how they did," Twins manager John Butler said.
The Twins lost the first game on Wednesday 12-11. Both games on Wednesday were seven innings. In the first game, Mikey Griffin threw the first three innings and gave up five runs, three of which were earned. John Hughes took the loss for the Twins in relief, throwing two innings and giving up four runs. Withrow tossed the last two innings for the Twins and gave up three runs.
The Twins had a 3-1 lead in the game, but Fairbanks came back. In the sixth inning, Fairbanks struck for six runs and took a 12-7 lead. The Twins tried to storm back in the seventh, scoring four runs. The tying run was on first base with two outs, but the threat ended when the runner was picked off.
Price went 2-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored to lead the Twins. Josh Gilbert finished 2-for-3 with two runs.
The score of Wednesday's second game was not available as the Clarion went to press.
The Twins stay on the road on Saturday, when they play Eagle River in a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader.
