Kenai man shot: Gun accidentally discharges; partygoer struck in lower leg

A party got a little out of hand early Sunday morning when a Kenai man was accidentally shot in the lower leg.

Cody N. Booth, 18, of Kenai, was arrested after a gun he was handling went off, ricocheted off the floor and hit James Gray, 19, of Kenai, in the calf, according to Kenai Police Sgt. Scott McBride.

McBride said Kenai police were alerted to the situation when they received a call from Central Peninsula Hospital saying a man checked in with a gunshot wound at 1:42 a.m. Sunday.

Officers went to a residence on Rance Street in Kenai where the party took place and arrested Booth for third-degree assault, fourth-degree misconduct involving a weapon, reckless endangerment and minor consuming alcohol.

He was taken to Wildwood Pretrial.

While at the residence, police also issued summonses to Jeremy G. Dyson, 19, of Kenai, and Michael L. Wirz, 19, of Kenai, for minor consuming alcohol.
