Ty Davis pitched eight shutout innings Tuesday to lead the Peninsula Oilers to a 6-0 victory over the Athletes in Action Fire at Coral Seymour Memorial Park in Kenai.

By finishing up the three-game sweep of AIA, the Oilers improved to 3-0 in the Alaska Baseball League and 10-2 overall. The Oilers are off Wednesday before traveling to Anchorage to face the Bucs Thursday at 7 p.m.

Davis improved to 3-0 on the season by taking a perfect game into the seventh inning. He now has allowed just three runs in 21 innings, and has 18 strikeouts on the season.

Tuesday, he allowed just two hits in eight innings of work, striking out five and walking none.

AIA's Richard Simpson broke up the perfect game by singling to lead off the seventh. Up until that point, the Fire had hit just one ball out of the infield. Oilers shortstop Nick Kliebert had 10 assists in the game.

By the late innings, the only suspense left was the perfect game. The Oilers offense took the pressure off Davis early by scoring six runs in the first three innings.

The big blow in the bottom of the second came from Nathan Faulkner. Faulkner singled to score two, then another came around to score on an error by the catcher. Faulkner eventually scored on a double by Dave Pellegrine.

In the third, Jared McGuire knocked in Kliebert with a single, and Faulkner brought home Matt Inouye with a fielder's choice.

McGuire, Faulkner and Luke Salas had two hits for the Oilers on the night.

Nicholas Schwartz took the loss for AIA.
