Accident closes Sterling Highway

Staff report

A three-vehicle crash south of Kasilof on the Sterling Highway sent two women to the hospital and closed the highway for about two hours Thursday afternoon.

Bernice Cooper, 62, of Ninilchik, and Joan Collens, 41, of Anchorage were transported to Central Peninsula General Hospital with non life-threatening injuries after their vehicles collided with a semi-truck.

Virginia Quinlen, 52, of Nikiski, and the driver of the semi-truck were not transported to the hospital, according to Greg Wilkinson, information officer for the Alaska State Troopers.

Wilkinson did not have any information early Thursday evening on what caused the accident. He said the collision was between the truck, a jeep and a car.
