Borough land may go up for auction: Surplus Kalifornsky Beach, Cohoe lots could be offered for public sale

Seven parcels of land considered surplus to the needs of the borough's land bank would be offered for public sealed bid later this year if the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly approves.

Ordinance 2008-14, set for introduction at the assembly's Tuesday meeting in Soldotna, would authorize Mayor John Williams to put the parcels up for sale. Minimum bids are not yet been established, but if the assembly approves, the bid opening would be Oct. 24.

The seven parcels are located in Kalifornsky Beach and Cohoe and are classified as residential.

They include in Kalifornsky Beach:

* Lot 1, Inlet Dreams Subdivision, 2.639 acres

* Lot 2, Inlet Dreams Subdivision, 2.524 acres

* Lot 2, Ocean Pond Subdivision Second Addition, 5.619 acres

* Lot 2, Ocean Pond Subdivision Second Addition, 5.490 acres

And in Cohoe:

* Lot D1, Pettifogger's Place Three Subdivision, 4.265 acres

* Lot D2, Pettifogger's Place Three Subdivision, 4.611 acres

* Lot D3, Pettifogger's Place Three Subdivision, 4.417 acres

Marcus Mueller told the assembly in a May 21 memo that a sale brochure would be prepared delineating the parcels and explaining the sealed bid procedure.

He said notice of the land sale would be published and the brochure made available on the Land Management Office Web site.

Ten percent of a successful bid or $1,500, whichever is greater, would be required as a down payment at the time a bidder entered into the agreement to purchase the land.

Parcels that do not sell would be returned to the land bank, the ordinance said.
